about
The second single from Melbourne psych-pop group Go Dog Go. Lazy Boy is a punchy psych-ballad about the dizzying confusion of potential romance, the search for confidence in professional life and finding your own voice in the world.
The new single follows on from their March release The Movie, which earned a glowing review from Forte magazine, dubbing it “...a fantastic first entry in what I hope is a long discography to come.” The band were elated to play to a sold out crowd at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel at the end of March, and have been itching to share more of their original music ever since.
The band recorded and workshopped Lazy Boy with producer Edvard Hakansson (Mimi Gilbert, Feign Jima) of Cohort Records, who has delivered a considered balance of guitar and synths that elevate the track from the catchy piano riff it is built upon. Their upcoming launch show will be held at the Evelyn Hotel on Saturday the 3rd of July. Tickets on sale now via their website.
lyrics
You called me into your corner office
The view of the skyline was quite ludicrous
Red leather and mahogany was all that I could see
Expensive taste for an eccentric woman
Oh you sat down at your throne and beckoned
For me to take a seat in a Lazy Boy
You gazed through your designer glasses at me
You had me frozen stiff and I could barely breathe
And all that I could do
Was look straight back at you
And feel myself falling again,
Falling again to the same end
Eyes like a green abyss, I don’t feel amiss
When I’m seeing them looking at this
I’m high to the point of bliss from your expressionistic face
It tells me all I need to know I won’t
Be down low in the dumps again
We both know the same thing, it’s not a game any more
And all you had me do,
Was go back and try undo
The steps that led to falling again,
Falling again to the same end
We’re not on the same page any more
It’s rougher than I ever saw and
I can’t go along with you now
Free your mind of all suspicion
Focus on your mission
Dream of flipping your world around
