about
'The Movie' offers the first taste of original music from Go Dog Go, and marks the first single from their forthcoming EP to be released later in the year. It feels instantly familiar with its warm, percussive opening, but soon offers a unique take on its lo-fi pop grounding. The song features a lush instrumental arrangement; warbly Fender Rhodes, chorus-filled electric guitar paired with crackly drums and punchy muted bass - all woven together with carefully layered synth pads and samples.
As the song builds, a narrative emerges, depicting a friendship that unexpectedly turns into something more. The song reaches a cinematic breaking point; with fizzing synth drones, distorted bells, and pulsating chord stabs in 7/8 time. By the end of 'The Movie', it is clear this isn’t your standard debut release; it is a considered piece by a talented group.
'The Movie' was written in 2019, and was recorded and produced by Edvard Hakansson (Mimi Gilbert, Jack Grace) in his home studio in late 2019.
The band will be hosting a limited capacity launch show at the Gasometer Hotel on the 24th of March with support from Feign Jima - tickets on sale now via their website.
lyrics
Float into focus in your living room
You’re sitting there staring with a look of gloom
Outside rain pours down no flowers in bloom
Dark greyness prevents sun from shining through
I can’t decide where I’m going
We try to prepare our minds for the movie
But I know this night will take its toll
And we will wake up so slow
You breathe it in, I breathe it in, down to the depths of our lungs
Now we sink into the feeling and roll another one
You started freaking out I thought we were having fun
But by the early hours we know that we’re done (yeah)
I can’t decide where I’m sleeping
We try to see through bloodshot eyes in the moonlight
Now I know this night has taken its toll
And we will wake up so slow
I know this is wrong
But I feel like I belong
This feeling’s growing strong
Where did you come from
I know this is wrong
But I feel like I belong
This feeling’s growing strong
Where did you come from
